Businesses are increasing their focus on records management practices to avoid possible legal complications.Recent corporate disasters have resurrected businesses’ interests in the risks of poor information and records management, according to a recent survey by the Association for Information and Image Management.

The study, which was underwritten by EMC, ASG and Iron Mountain, found senior managers in 57 percent of organizations are more conscious of their records management practices in light of the recent disasters, such as the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the Toyota recalls, the banking crisis and high-profile government email leaks.

According to the AIIM study, 80 percent of organizations have given increased priority to records management over the last two years, and over half of the organizations surveyed plan to increase spending on records management.
